Congratulations! Based on your achievements and the
recommendation of your academic program, you have been academically admitted to
the Graduate School at Eastern Michigan University! EMU offers outstanding graduate
programs. I am confident you will find your decision to pursue your graduate
studies at Eastern to be one of the best that you have made.
You have been accepted with certain conditions. The
conditions you must satisfy are listed on the enclosed Departmental Recommendation
form. The form also contains the name
and email address of your graduate adviser, who will assist you in planning
your program of study. Your signed, approved program of study should be on file
in the Office of Records and Registration, 303 Pierce Hall, no later than the
end of your first semester of enrollment.
The English as a Second Language (ESL) condition placed
on your admission will require your full-time enrollment in the Intensive
English Program to improve your English skills. This conditional admission may
be re-evaluated if you submit new results of the TOEFL, MELAB, Pearsons, or
IELTS to both the ESL staff and the Office of Admissions no later than two
weeks before the beginning of classes. At
the successful conclusion of your ESL coursework (or the evaluation of new test
results), you will be eligible to begin the academic degree program to which
you applied.
To enroll in the Intensive English Program, you will need
to obtain an I-20 indicating the Intensive English Program as your program of
study. To proceed with enrolling in the
Intensive English Program and to receive additional information on placement
testing, please e-mail esl@emich.edu.
When you arrive at Eastern, you
must report to the Office of International Students and Scholars in 240 Student
Center. Please remember to bring your I-94 form and your passport
with you. Call 734.487.3116 to schedule your appointment. Please note: your
I-20 has been issued with the provision that you will be enrolled for at least
eight credit hours for both the Fall and Winter semester (or Summer, if that is
your first semester). You must return your I-20 if you are unable to do so or
if you are unable to arrive by the scheduled date on the I-20. For students
studying on a J-1visa, the DS-2019 will be issued by your sponsoring agency or
from EMU’s Office of International Students & Scholars if you are an EMU
exchange student.
